Entering the Sacrament of Matrimony

Congratulations on your engagement! Here is what you need to do to enter the sacrament of matrimony in the Catholic Church:

Step 1: Make an appointment with your parish priest, deacon, or pastoral minister. Your parish is always the first stop in marriage preparation. Be sure to complete your marriage preparation 6-12 months before the wedding.

Step 2: Prepare! PreCana programs in the Catholic Church explain what you need to know about the sacrament of marriage before the wedding. During the marriage preparation sessions you will learn about communication skills, finances, sexuality, Natural Family Planning, spirituality, becoming a “domestic church,” and many other helpful and important topics. PreCana Presenters are professionals in their field as well as married couples themselves with lots of hard-won practical wisdom.

To register for Pre Cana you will need to click on the Marriage tab on our website. Scroll down to Diocesan Pre Cana Online Registration and complete the form. Please choose the date you would like to attend from the dropdown list. Please be sure to complete the entire form with payment. Payment must be made at the time of registration or you will not be considered registered.

You can also access the form and complete your registration by clicking on this link: Marriage Preparation online registration and scroll down to Marriage Preparation Selections.
