Diocese of Rockville Centre announces creation of new Office of Evangelization and Catechesis
ROCKVILLE CENTRE – August 28, 2020
The Diocese of Rockville Centre announced today 
the creation of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis and the appointment of Father Lachlan Cameron as its first Director. The new Office of Evangelization and Catechesis combines the Office of Faith Formation and ministries from the Office of New Evangelization, namely, Hispanic Ministry, Multicultural Diversity, Youth Ministry, Campus Ministry and Young Adult Ministry.
“Father Lachlan Cameron has a wide range of pastoral, catechetical, evangelization and theological experiences that have prepared him to be the director of the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis,” said Rockville Centre Bishop John Barres. “With his Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Angelicum University in Rome, Father Cameron has a gift for being able to express the truths of our Catholic faith in a way that people can actually receive and be inspired by. He is committed with his staff to serving the real needs of our parishes and working closely with our pastors. In a special way, Father Cameron, as Chaplain of Stony Brook University and Director of Campus Ministry for the Diocese, has a compassionate understanding of high school and university Students and so is uniquely suited to address the faith and evangelization needs of our young people in his new position.”
“The Office of New Evangelization and the Office of Faith Formation are united now under two words that have animated each: ‘evangelization’ – announcing the Faith – and ‘catechesis’ – developing the Faith,” said Father Cameron. “These related actions of proclaiming the good news of the Gospel and nourishing, deepening and forming the personal faith given in response to that proclamation will continue to shape the endeavors of the combined staff as we work collaboratively and in our own ministries.”
Father Cameron remains the chaplain of Stony Brook University, interim-director of Faith Formation and director of Campus Ministry for the Diocese of Rockville Centre.
