Our Recent Mass and Dinner Dance
by DRVC Website

We celebrated our Diocesan Mass with Bishop Robert Brennan and Father John Sureau on May 19th at St. Frances de Chantal Church in Wantagh. It was the beautiful feast of Pentecost and the Church, and bishop, too, was resplendent in red, the color of love and of fire. About 200 of us with special needs joined with the bishop in celebrating the presence of the Spirit among us. Our lectors, altar servers, greeters, and leader of song all served the community as we praised the God who created us in His beautiful image. Our Down syndrome, developmental delays, hearing loss, blindness, paralysis, and Autism, seemed to disappear as we used our gifts to minister in the presence of the God who loves us so much. We all enjoyed the hospitality which followed.
Thanks to all who participated in an experience of Church which I will long remember!
May 31st cooled down just enough for us to dance the evening away at the Dinner Dance which was also held at St. Frances. Father Greg Cappuccino again welcomed us to this truly accessible parish where there are no physical barriers, either in the Church or in the Pastoral Center, to our inclusion. Volunteers from the parish, as well as from the wonderful Campus Ministry led by Marianne Sheridan with camera attached, set-up, served, danced, and cleaned up. I can’t forget to mention the two volunteers from the Young Vincentians, Nick and Ryan, who served soda all evening. Altogether, over a hundred of us celebrated the joyful Spirit among us, even as we had on Pentecost. The Spirit is very much alive in the Church of Rockville Centre! May we be blessed with His Presence as we enjoy the summer ahead.
