The Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation |
|||||||||
“Catechesis has to investigate new possibilities offered by the existence of the new technologies and imagine whole new models and systems if the Gospel message is to penetrate the culture, make sense for the next generation of Catholics and bring about a response of faith.” National Directory for Catechesis, #4C What is The Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation?The Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation (VLCFF) is a growing initiative to offer adult religious education and faith formation anytime and anywhere via the Internet. The goal is to support the Church’s professional ministry of religious education and faith formation in cyberspace. The VLCFF is coordinated and sponsored by the Institute for Pastoral Initiatives (IPI) at the University of Dayton, a Catholic Marianist Institution. Our mission is to mobilize the resources of the University of Dayton for partnerships with the Church that create and implement innovative pastoral initiatives designed to meet the needs of the Church and to articulate faith within the context of contemporary culture. What kinds of courses are available?Scripture, Sacraments, Catholic Beliefs, Church History, Jesus, Catechetics, Media Education and others. New courses are constantly being designed for VLCFF. Consult vlc.udayton.edu for an up-to-date listing of courses. What is the course format?Courses run for 3-6 weeks. Each course is capped at 15 participants and is designed to be an experience within a small virtual community, not an independent study. Courses are password protected. What does it cost?Since the Diocese of Rockville Centre is a VLCFF partner, the fee is only $40.00 per course. Why would I be interested?Time: If your schedule does not permit you to participate in any of the other diocesan faith formation programs, then perhaps VLCFF is for you. Distance: If it is too far for you to travel to take a particular course in our diocese. Interest: If you are interested in other courses that are not being offered in our diocese at a given time. What do I need to participate?You need to feel relatively comfortable with using a computer and the Internet and have access to both. How do I register or get more information?All information is online. Courses are available 7 times a year. Check our vlc.udayton.edu for up to date information on how to register. Any questions: Call toll free: 1-888-300-8436 When you call, please sure to tell them you are a member of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York. For further information, or if you have any questions, please contact Estelle Peck, Associate Director of Adult Faith Formation. Estelle will be happy to answer your questions and help you discern if the Virtual Learning Community for Faith Formation is for you! |
