FORGIVENESS, THE HEART OF COMPASSION

Four-day workshop: July 28, 29, 30 and 31, 2008

Prospect and Mill Dam Roads, Centerport

Thomas Petriano, Ph.D.,
Professor, St. Joseph’s College,
will discuss Henri Nouwen’s meditation on Rembrandt’s famous painting
of the Prodigal Son. This workshop will explore the theme of the
heart’s journey to forgiveness.
How am I like the younger son? The elder brother?
How can I embrace others in forgiveness in the manner
of the father in Jesus’ parable?
Finally, using the works of Desmond Tutu and Rwandan
survivor Immaculle Ilibagiza, consideration will be given to how forgiveness
can play a role in resolving ethnic, religious and global conflicts.

ART & JOURNALING

Five sessions: Tuesday evenings, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., May 20, 27, June 3, 10, and 17, 2008 at St. Frances de Chantal, Wantagh in the Parish Center’s Smulski room.

This workshop will explore the relationship between art and journaling in prayer. Participants will create their own art experience using different media as prayer, and continue the prayer experience through journaling.
