BASIC COURSES
Old Testament
Participants will be introduced to the major events, themes and characters
of the Hebrew Scriptures and to basic principles of Catholic Bible study.
This course is offered at the following parishes:
Five sessions: Mondays, April 14, 21, May 5, 2008 in the Church and May 12 and 19 in the school, room B1 (7:30 to 9:00 p.m.) at Holy Family Parish, Hicksville. Instructor: James Philipps. Call 516-938-3846.

New Testament
Participants will be introduced to the structure, content and themes of the major books in the New Testament and will become acquainted with the variety of writings in the Christian Scriptures.

Christology
Participants will learn how Scripture, Tradition and Church teaching have described and defined the identity and mission of Jesus Christ. Participants will reflect on the role of images of Jesus in Catholic faith and spirituality.
Five sessions: Tuesdays, April 1, 15, 29, May 13 and 27, 2008. (7:30 to 9:30 p.m.) at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst in the Pastors Meeting Room (rectory).

The Church (Ecclesiology)
Participants will explore the Church's evolving understanding of itself as a hierarchally ordered communio of disciples in communion with one another and the Triune God, commissioned by Baptism to bring about the evangelization and transformation of the world.

Liturgy & Sacraments
Partipants will be introduced to sacramental theology and liturgical practice
of the Roman Catholic Church.

Morality
Partipants will be introduced to the basic principles of Catholic Christian morality and decision-making, and how to apply to today’s moral issues.

Scripture
The Gospel of St. Matthew
Five sessions: Tuesday evenings, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., April 8, 15, 22, 29, and May 6, 2008 at St. Frances de Chantal, Wantagh in the Parish Center’s Smulski room.
These sessions will focus on Matthew’s interpretation of Jesus as the teacher and the ‘new’ Moses. We will take an in depth look at the Five Sermons that Matthew presents in his gospel and apply them to our lives in the 21st century. Through prayer, presentation, and discussion, we will take a closer look at what Matthew tells us about being a disciple of Jesus Christ. Instructor: Kathleen Reid, M.A. Donation: $15.00.
