Old Testament

Christology

Christ Jesus: A Portrait in Scripture

When: 5 Thursdays: January  17, 24, 31, February 5, 12, 2019

Time: 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Participants in this course will come to understand the mystery of Christ as a divine mystery that transcends the human mind but makes our existence intelligible. Through an examination of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke we will develop an overview of Jesus’s teaching ministry. In our examination of the Gospel of John we will explore the Paschal mystery and the image of Jesus as Temple sacrifice. Through the Pauline epistles we will examine the earliest historical Christological statements and their relationship with the Gospels. Finally, Church doctrine will be presented through a thorough examination of creeds and sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Liturgy

Praying the Mass – Catechesis on the Texts of the Mass

This course will explore the meaning of what we say and sing at Mass. We’ll look at elements such as the Glory to God in the highest, the Holy Holy, the Collect, the Prayer over the Offerings, the Prayer after Communion, and other elements, to explore their history, to uncover how they function in the Mass, and to understand how they should lead us to be more deeply immersed in the mystery being celebrated. Advanced credit is available for those who have completed the Basic Studies Course.
